‘Fancy Like’ singer says he no longer eats at Applebee’s

It’s been said that too much of a good thing can ruin what made it enjoyable in the first place. That appears to be the case for country music singer Walker Hayes who recently admitted he no longer enjoys the restaurant chain that made him famous.

Hayes is known for his chart-topping 2021 hit “Fancy Like” which references a date night at the local Applebee’s in its lyrics.

“Yeah, we fancy like Applebee’s on a date night/Got that Bourbon Street steak with the Oreo shake/Get some whipped cream on the top, too/Two straws, one check, girl, I got you,” the chorus goes.

The song hit number one on the Billboard Hot Country charts and number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 2021. The single was featured in Applebee’s commercials and led to the Oreo milkshake being brought back to the menu

The success resulted in Hayes being given a gold pass from the restaurant chain that gives him free food for life. However, it appears that pass won’t be getting much use in the near future as Hayes admits he’s pretty burnt out on Applebee’s.

“You know, man, Applebee’s was so good to us, and they always are … but you know, you fatigue of a restaurant, you know what I mean?” Hayes said in an interview with A Taste of Country earlier this year.

The singer/songwriter went on to say that his family ate at the chain quite a bit after “Fancy Like” got popular. “In particular, Hayes said the family consumed plenty of Oreo milkshakes — so many that he could go without ever eating another Oreo in his life.

Hayes made it clear that he never had an issue with the food or his experiences at Applebee’s. It’s just time to take a little time away from the chain.

“It’s funny how something great and just awesome, and one day you just wake up and it’s just like, ‘I can’t, I can’t do it again.’ We’re taking an Applebee’s break now,” Hayes said.
