KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Whipped cream, sprinkles and a maraschino cherry served on a chocolate cake donut: the Skat Dog.
Named for the association with animal droppings and their black bear mascot, the Kalamazoo Growlers announced Tuesday their new Saturday-home-game-exclusive concession item the Skat Dog, a 1,017 calorie $10 hot dog with sweet fixings.
The “c” in scat is replaced with a “K” because of the letter’s significance in baseball, representing strikeouts in a scorekeeper’s scorebook.
“Our team thought the chocolate cake donut reminded us of ‘scat’ like bear droppings,” Growlers General Manager Tom Olds, said. “So we took scat and and a fan-favorite hot dog & donut and made it more appealing for a summer meal that makes fans look twice before devouring it.”
The Skat Dog is only a feature in the larger collection of minor league baseball food creations, following in the footsteps of the nationally recognized Battle Creek Bomber’s Twinkie Dog and, another Growlers original, the Bear Claw Burger.
Fans can enter into an online drawing for a chance to win a free Skat Dog, a new winner to be selected every Saturday night game for the upcoming season.
A private tasing of the Skat Dog will also be held for all Meijer 5-Game Miniplan Holders at the annual Kalamazoo Growlers preseason Fan Fest at Homer Stryker Field in May.
Playing against the Lakeshore Chinooks, the Kalamazoo Growlers have their first home gave on May 28. Their full schedule can be found online.
