Beloved childhood character Betty Boop has finally entered the public domain and the iconic 1930s flapper girl is the next in line to undergo a chilling horror movie makeover
Betty Boop ain’t so sweet as she takes on the villain role in a terrifying new horror film.
The iconic 1930s flapper girl is the latest in a long line of popular characters that have entered the public domain. Winnie The Pooh, Mickey Moust, Bambi and Popeye have all been subjected to a gruesome horror movie makeover and VMI Worldwide will reportedly be bringing Betty to life.
Furst Class Productions are set to produce the film, which follows the curly-haired girl as a horror villain. A team of horror podcasters break into an abandoned theatre and discover the Hollywood starlet named Boop, who is now thirsty for blood.
Boop will be played by Devanny Pinn while Katisha Shaw, Spencer Breslin, Colton Tran and Eva Hamilton are all set to star alongside her.
Atlantic Rim and Jailbait director Jared Cohen is on board, while The Flood’s Josh Ridgway and Mega Shark vs Mecha Shark’s Jose Prendes will be working on the script.
VMI COO Jessica Russo said: “Getting your classic cartoon told as a horror film is still mind-blowing, but what sets Boop apart from all the other horror IPs is her motivation. Boop’s dark history is extremely grim, but this telling allows her to get her power back. A true testament to feminism led by a predominantly female team.”
Producer Jarrett Furst also said: “When I learned this cartoon was entering the public domain, I knew there was something special waiting to happen. This team, brimming with extraordinary talent both in front of and behind the camera, absolutely blew me away.”
“I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Get ready for a wildly violent, ridiculously fun ride and trust me, this is only the beginning.”
Betty Boop is one of the most iconic cartoon characters ever made, with her iconic short, curly black hair, hoop earrings and cupid pout.
