Digital Tails Group (DTG), part of Bowmo, Inc., has collaborated with The Cabinet Shop (https://thecabinetshop.co.uk) to publish a case study exploring the introduction of a 3D product design and customisation platform that brings bespoke cabinetry design into an interactive online environment.
The platform features a 3D configurator with automated, rules-based pricing that plugs directly into The Cabinet Shop’s Shopify storefront. Cupboards were chosen as the initial product to digitise, with the architecture structured for easy expansion across the brand’s full offering and potential integration of AI-driven design features.
The initiative set out to streamline the buying process while creating a scalable digital roadmap for future product growth.
Previously, customers relied on form submissions and extended correspondence to finalise specifications. The new configurator allows users to control dimensions, colours and layouts themselves—receiving immediate visual and cost feedback.
The Cabinet Shop’s designers formerly spent considerable time drawing custom illustrations for customer requests. By automating standard configurations, the tool reduces manual drafting, allowing designers to focus on high-value, intricate and one-off design challenges, thereby accelerating workflow and improving efficiency.
Each design output generates exact production documentation, reducing human error and ensuring clarity between sales and manufacturing teams. A built-in rule system ensures customer choices remain technically compatible.
Future phases will see the configurator applied to additional furniture ranges including entertainment units, wardrobes and shelf systems. DTG’s modular infrastructure ensures these additions can be rolled out without re-engineering the platform.
Additionally, the configurator allows for the automatic creation of tailored product variations, aligning pages with multiple search intents, helping enhance organic visibility and attract customers with diverse needs and preferences.
“With the configurator, customers can design their own cabinets in real time. This takes pressure off our designers, reduces back-and-forth communication, and speeds up the process.”
— Lewis Nichols, Founder of The Cabinet Shop
