BURBANK, Calif. (TNND) — Police in California have confirmed the arrest Paul Rodriguez, the Mexican-American actor and stand-up comedian, following a traffic stop.
Burbank Police Department Sgt. Stephen Turner confirmed to The National News Desk that the 70-year-old was arrested on Thursday.
Turner said around 7:30 p.m., Burbank police officers initiated a routine traffic stop near the intersection of Victory Blvd. and Lamer St. for vehicle code violations. Rodriguez, known for his career in comedy and acting, was allegedly a passenger in the vehicle at the time.
During the investigation, officers discovered narcotics inside the vehicle. Rodriguez was arrested and taken to the Burbank Police Jail on charges of possession of narcotics. He was later released with a citation to appear in court on April 25, 2025.
The Burbank Police Department has not released additional details regarding the type or quantity of narcotics found during the stop.
Rodriguez, whose career has spanned decades with notable roles in film and television, has yet to comment publicly on the incident.
TMZ reported that Rodriguez told them the car was his, but he had been asleep in the passenger seat when he and his friend were pulled over. He claimed that a “Caucasian” officer, who he described as being on a “power trip,” slapped him awake during the incident.
Rodriguez has starred in several comedy movies like “A Million to Juan,” “Born in East L.A.,” and “Beverly Hills Chihuahua.”
