BONHAM, Texas (KXII) – Congressman Pat Fallon (R-TX) held a fiery town hall meeting in Bonham Wednesday night.
Running nearly an hour behind, he took the stage around 5:00 p.m. to discuss everything surrounding the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk, and the major changes happening within the federal government.
Some residents expressed frustration with Fallon’s recent stances.
“I’m here to ask my representative what he thinks about these constitutional violations,” resident Jessica McDonald said. “Does he think that’s a constitutional violation?”
But Fallon stood strong in his support of Musk and DOGE.
When asked about executive overreach, he said it’s well within President Donald Trump’s power to give DOGE authority, even though Musk was not elected.
Fallon said cuts and changes to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are needed to address fraud and misuse of funds.
Though, when he addressed cuts to veterans services during his speech, he was answered by boos and laughter.
“Just because we cut the Veterans Affairs budget or they cut their own, that doesn’t mean we hurt veterans,” he said, “it will probably will help veterans.”
At one point, he admitted that he didn’t know much about a program that DOGE cut, and residents shouted out questions around how DOGE can cut a program it doesn’t understand.
Those residents were removed from the meeting by local law enforcement.
When asked if he had a message for the peoples and families effected by the DOGE cuts, he called the whole process “growing pains.”
“We need to get our federal spending in check and if we don’t balance the budget, at some point there are going to be way more firings and layoffs because we won’t have the money to pay for it,” Fallon said.
The meeting in Bonham was the first of two in North Texas, and was attended by several hundred people on both sides of the aisle.
