Fox News Sunday host Shannon Bream had a hearty and productive conversation over the weekend with Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) about the future of TikTok amid the app’s temporary shutdown, but a chyron that flashed on the screen might end up what’s being remembered.
While McCormick and the host discussed steps President Donald Trump could take to ensure TikTok is available and safe for Americans, the network misspelled the name of the platform in the most unfortunate way.
A network chyron that flashed during what was a substantive talk about national security read, “TITKOK SHUTS DOWN IN THE U.S.”
Sunday’s apparent production mistake can and should serve as a reminder to the news-viewing public that those who cover the news are, like everyone, human and thus prone to error.
This reporter misspelled Fox News host Greg Gutfeld’s name in a story that was published on Friday of last week, errantly writing “Gutfled.” Someone from Fox would go on to write the word “TITKOK” for content that was packaged for a national audience roughly 40 hours later.
Both errors were expeditiously corrected.
Sometimes, the misplacement of just two letters can sink an otherwise flawless report or segment and lead to immeasurable embarrassment for the perpetrator of the mistake.
As for Bream’s discussion with McCormick Sunday, the senator told the host he believed Trump was the right person to strike a deal to permanently keep TikTok available in the US.
“I can’t think of anybody better than President Trump to be able to find some sort of negotiated solution,” McCormick told Bream. “But what that will be, I don’t know.”
