Is Fyre Festival coming back around with a second installment? Yes, the ill-fated festival, which has been the subject of two documentaries on Netflix and Hulu, the most scrutinized cheese sandwiches known to the internet, and landed one of its lead organizers in jail, is (apparently) coming back.
Fyre Festival 2 will take place from May 30 to June 2 at Isla Mujeres, off the coast of Cancun, Mexico. The festival’s new website went live, offering a limited number of tickets ranging from $1,400 to $1.1 million. Founder and New Jersey native Billy McFarland spoke to the Today Show on Monday about his hopes for the new event.
“FYRE 2 really isn’t about the past, and it’s not really about me. It’s about taking the vision, which is strong,” McFarland said.
In February 2024, he noted that the next Fyre Festival installment would be held at Coral View Beach Resort on the Honduran island of Utila in February 2025.
McFarland said Fyre Festival 2 was still happening, but the location and exact dates had yet to be determined in speaking with the Wall Street Journal in September 2024. The festival has found a date and location, but no musical guests have yet been confirmed.
What can you expect if you fork over a million bucks for the Prometheus package? McFarland explained that to the Today Show.
“You will be on a boat and have the luxury yachts that we partner with, which will be docked and parked outside the island,” said McFarland. “Fyre is not just about this, like, luxury experience. It’s about the adventure. So you’ll be scuba diving with me. You’ll be bouncing around to other islands and other countries on small planes.”
McFarland, who was raised in the Short Hills section of Millburn, pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges related to the first Fyre Festival and was sentenced to six years in prison in 2018. He was released from prison in March 2022.
