Elon Musk sparked controversy on Sunday by claiming that the election of Donald Trump in November is the “only way” to save the U.S. from Democratic tyranny and illegal immigration. He warned that if Trump is not elected, it could mark the end of democracy in America.
The billionaire CEO of SpaceX, Tesla, and X argued that the Democratic Party is expediting the naturalization of non-citizens, potentially creating millions of new voters and transforming the U.S. into a “one-party state.”
“Very few Americans realize that, if Trump is NOT elected, this will be the last election,” Musk wrote on X. “Far from being a threat to democracy, he is the only way to save it!”
He further alleged that the Biden administration has been relocating “asylum seekers” directly into swing states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Arizona, calling it “a surefire way to win every election.”
Critics quickly responded, many expressing disbelief at Musk’s assertions and questioning whether he was issuing a veiled threat through his fearmongering.
“I used to think you were a lot smarter than this,” one user wrote.
Billionaire Mark Cuban cautioned Musk about the potential dangers of closely aligning with Trump, suggesting that such loyalty might not be reciprocated. The implications of Musk’s statements and his influence on the political landscape raise serious concerns about the future of democracy in the U.S.
“There will come a time when you need something from Donald Trump,” Cuban fired back on X. “You will think you have earned the right to ask and receive. You have been a loyal, faithful soldier for him, supporting him politically with tens of millions of dollars. Then, at the point you need him the most, you will find out what so many before you have learned: his loyalty is only to himself.”
Political commentator Keith Olbermann ridiculed Musk’s assertion, writing, “Stoned again, you fascist? Just remember: Trump is setting up an environment in which he can revoke the citizenship of anybody who wasn’t born here and many who were. You may be deported, Elon, if you cross this psychopath Trump. Vote Harris before Trump decides he’s gotten all he’s going to get from you.”
“Drop the politics. You’re looking more and more like a lunatic. What you are saying makes no sense,” another user replied.
Another user added, “Elon, you are spreading misinformation and lies! You should be ashamed of yourself! Admit it, you just want Trump to give you a big ole tax deduction.”
“What Elon means: If Trump doesn’t win, I’m screwed,” one user quipped. “I need to incite people with fear so a crazy person tries to interfere with an election! I NEED Trump in office!”
“I’d stay off the horse tranquilizer, if I were you. It’s frying your brain,” another user warned.
“Trump literally attempted a self-coup, and it was violent,” one user pointed out. “People died as a direct result of his lies as he tried to reverse the results of a free and fair election and even went so far as to say we should terminate the constitution. You are out of your goddamn mind!”
