Jalen Hurts is heading to this Super Bowl on Feb. 9 as the highest-salaried athlete on the field, leading as the star quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles with his five-year contract worth $255 million.
As Finurah previously reported, after three years with the Eagles, Hurts signed a contract extension worth $255 million in April 2023, which includes $179 million in guaranteed money, setting a record for the highest average annual salary at the time — about $51 million.
Will He Live Up To His Mega Contract?
According to USA Today, Hurts’ contract features a fully guaranteed signing bonus of $110 million.
Hurts, between his 2020 and 2023 seasons, has consistently played about 15 games, with his stats, according to the NFL website, getting increasingly better.
The 2023-2024 season was his career high, and with running back Saquon Barkley, there is a chance for the Eagles to be champions like the team was in 2018 and 1960, the only two times the team has won.
Hurts was close in 2022 to winning against the Kansas City Chiefs, losing 38- 35 in Super Bowl LVII.
“Obviously you still have different motivations, and I’m motivated by any time you come up short in anything,” Hurts told the Philadelphia Inquirer regarding his 2022 loss. “Having that perspective of just trying to learn from all of your lessons. So no shortcoming is bigger than the other. You just want to learn from them all.”
In 2024-2025, his stats, although impressive, fell slightly off in terms of passing yards, interceptions, overall touchdowns, and rushed yards despite winning the NFC.
Hurts is not the richest quarterback, per se, just the richest in this Super Bowl as Dak Prescott, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, Tua Tagovailoa, Jared Goff, Justin Herbert, and Lamar Jackson have since surpassed the Eagles’ contract.
Hurts will play against Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes once more.
“My approach is just to take it a day at a time,” Hurts said. “It starts with the preparation throughout the week and being diligent with the work of putting the time in, putting forth the effort, so when it’s time to go out there and go, you feel prepared.”
According to Sportrac, Hurts makes more money than Mahomes per game.
Mahomes is signed to a 10-year, $450 million contract with the Chiefs, including a $10 million signing bonus, about $141.5 million in guaranteed money, and an average of $45 million annual salary.
