Prime Video has ordered Silent River, a thriller drama series starring and executive produced by John Krasinski (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) and Matthew Rhys (The Americans). The project comes from Krasinski and Allyson Seeger’s Sunday Night, whose first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios has been extended.
Told through the lens of two men — played by Krasinski and Rhys — whose lives are far more connected than they realize, Silent River explores the cracks of small-town America in the wake of discovering a serial killer among them.
Krasinski, who will direct the pilot with some additional episodes, has re-teamed with two key Jack Ryan alums on Silent River. The new series was created by Aaron Rabin, who will serve as executive producer, with Andrew Bernstein directing and executive producing.
Bernstein served as an executive producer and director on Season 2 of the Prime Video series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, starring and executive produced by Krasinski, while Rabin served as a co-EP and writer on Season 4. Additionally Bernstein is set to direct the upcoming Jack Ryan movie for the streamer from a script by Rabin. Krasinski is reprising his title role in that film, which is produced by Sunday Night. Bernstein also previously directed Rhys in two episodes of FX’s The Americans.
Krasinski, Seeger and Alexa Ginsburg will executive produce Silent River for Sunday Night. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, where Sunday Night has been under first-look deals since 2019.
“We are thrilled to continue our work with John Krasinski, Allyson Seeger, and Sunday Night on this gripping series, which delves into the mysteries and secrets of small-town America,“ said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios. “With John and Matthew Rhys attached to star in this wonderful story from Aaron Rabin, our global customers will be on the edge of their seats throughout this thought-provoking, psychological thriller.”
Most recently, Krasinski released IF for Paramount which he starred in, wrote, produced, and directed. He previously co-wrote, directed, and starred in the Oscar-nominated film A Quiet Place, which spawned a successful horror franchise. The Office alum, who also created and hosted the popular web series Some Good News, is repped by WME and Schreck Rose.
Rhys is shooting the Netflix limited series The Beast In Me opposite Claire Danes. He recently wrapped Towards Zero, a limited series adaptation of the Agatha Christie classic for Britbox and BBC1. Rhys portrays George Carlin in Jason Reitman’s feature Saturday Night and also wrapped the upcoming feature Hallow Road opposite Rosamund Pike. An Emmy winner for The Americans and Golden Globe nominee for HBO’s Perry Mason, Rhys is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content and United Agents.
Prolific TV director Bernstein most recently directed multiple episodes of Welcome to Derry for HBO and the first season of The Diplomat for Netflix. At HBO, he also served as executive producer and director on The Nevers and Jason Bateman’s The Outsider. He was also one of the primary directors on Netflix’s hit Ozark, starring and exec produced by Bateman. Bernstein is repped by CAA, Industry Entertainment Partners and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.
Rabin’s spec Towers was featured on the Black List with Andrew Mittman producing via his 1.21 banner. He recently rewrote Nobody 2 into production for Universal where he is currently writing another feature. Rabin also adapted the graphic novel Old Haunts as a feature for AWA Studios. He is repped by Untitled Entertainment, CAA and Gendler Kelly.
