Green Day had to cancel the band’s last show on the Australian leg of their “Saviors” tour because of Cyclone Alfred.
The punk rock icons made the announcement on their Instagram story Tuesday. The show was scheduled for Wednesday at the C-Bus Super Stadium in Gold Coast.
“Hey Australia, unfortunately due to circumstances out of our control, tomorrow’s Gold Coast show has been cancelled.” Green Day wrote. “With Cyclone Alfred bringing some seriously nasty weather, it’s just not possible to go ahead safely. We know this is a huge disappointment, and we’re just as bummed as you are. Stay safe out there!”
The band did not provide any information regarding ticket refunds or rescheduling the show. Green Day’s next concert is at Lollapalooza India in Mumbai on Sunday.
Cyclone Alfred is expected to make landfall on between Brisbane and Sunshine Coast on Thursday or Friday, according to The Independent.
The storm, which was upgraded to Category 2 Tuesday, could be the first cyclone to directly impact Brisbane since Nancy in 1990.
The region could see rainfall of 300-700 millimeters (11-27 inches) with wind gusts expected to exceed 120 kilometers (74 miles per hour). Large waves may also lead to coastal erosion and flooding.
