President Donald Trump raised the possibility of the two stranded astronauts aboard the International Space Station falling in love on Thursday, ignoring the fact that both astronauts are currently married.
“Elon is right now preparing a ship to go up and get them,” Trump told reporters during a discussion about astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams, who have been stranded on the ISS since June 2024. “We’re coming up to get you, and you shouldn’t have been up there so long. The most incompetent president in our history has allowed that to happen to you, but this president won’t let it happen. We’re going to get them out.”
He continued, “They’ve been left up there. I hope they like each other. Maybe they’ll love each other, I don’t know. But they’ve been left up there, think of it. And I see the woman with the wild hair. Good solid head of hair she’s got. There’s no kidding, there’s no games with her hair.”
Trump then asked a reporter, “Should I go on that journey just to be on the ship when we stop?”
After the reporter replied, “If that’s an option, yes,” Trump protested, “That’s terrible. I thought he liked me.”
Wilmore and Williams are both married to their respective spouses. Wilmore has two kids and lives with his family in Houston, Texas when not in space, while Williams lives with her husband Michael Williams also in Houston, Texas.
Trump announced in January that billionaire SpaceX CEO Elon Musk would “soon be on his way” to “go get” the two astronauts from the ISS, where they have been stranded for more than nine months.
“I have just asked Elon Musk and @SpaceX to ‘go get’ the 2 brave astronauts who have been virtually abandoned in space by the Biden Administration,” he announced in a social media post. “They have been waiting for many months on @Space Station. Elon will soon be on his way. Hopefully, all will be safe. Good luck Elon!!!”
