The first photos have officially been released of the title character in Macon Blair’s reimagining of “The Toxic Avenger” for Legendary Pictures.
Cineverse acquired distribution rights to the film back in January, a remake of the iconic Troma Entertainment 1984 title by Lloyd Kaufman.
“Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage plays Winston Gooze, a janitor at a chemical factory whose employer refuses to cover treatment for his terminal illness. After robbing the company, Winston endures a freak industrial accident that turns him into a mutant.
Though an outcast as a result, he uses his newfound superhuman strength to become a vigilante to battle freaks, gangsters, and corrupt CEOs.
Luisa Guerreiro provides the physical performance of Toxie under the makeup and costume with Dinklage providing the voice and human scenes as Winston. Elijah Wood, Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Julia Davis and Kevin Bacon co-star.
The film premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin back in mid-2023 to rave reviews, but it has struggled to find a distributor in the time since. Alex Garcia, Michael Herz, Lloyd Kaufman and Mary Parent are producers.
“The Toxic Avenger” will now hit cinemas as an unrated wide release on August 29th.
