OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Omaha Supernovas are joining a new league next season.
The pro-volleyball franchise said in a news release Thursday that the Supernovas would be exiting the Pro Volleyball Federation in favor of joining the brand new Major League Volleyball.
“There are no changes to the team’s 2025 season schedule, ticketing, or fan experience,” the release states, noting that the Supernovas also will continue playing at CHI Health Center arena when they start playing for the MLV.
Announcing the formation of the new league on Thursday, USA Volleyball said MLV is set to feature 10 teams in 2026, calling the Supernovas the league’s “founding franchise.”
MLV will also include independently owned and operated pro teams from Wisconsin, California, Minnesota, Indiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Kansas, Ohio, and Washington.
“By building on established grassroots programs, MLV aims to empower young women athletes and create a professional career path for the current and next generation of women’s volleyball,” a release from MLV states, referring to the Supernovas as “the leading franchise in professional volleyball.”
The MLV news release said the league is backed by more than $100 million, with the founder of the Supernovas, Danny White, listed among the founding partner group alongside MLV founding partners Jason Derulo; Vivek Ranadive, owner and chairman of the Sacramento Kings; three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings; and Benjamin Priest, a former Formula 1 executive and entrepreneur who founded the Won Group with NBA Champion Kyle Kuzma.
“Our sport deserves the best of the best,” Jennings said. “Our women are kick-ass individuals and athletes, and it is long overdue for there to be a product that resembles the biggest and brightest sports, media and entertainment platforms on the planet. This is the league I would have wished to play in, and the Supernovas are a standard for a pro team that I would have wanted to play for. Stay tuned!”
MLV is the fourth professional volleyball league to launch in recent years, joining PVF; League One Volleyball, also known as LOVB; and Athletes Unlimited.
