Breakups can bring out the worst in people, and sometimes, when emotions run high, the results can be pretty entertaining.
A recent Reddit thread on the r/pettyrevenge sub asked users to share the pettiest things they’ve done after a breakup, and the responses did not disappoint.
The original poster (OP) of the thread, u/EasyReveal2752, shared their own story to kick things off: “My ex ditched me in a foreign country after getting belligerently drunk on the flight there, I decided to make the most of the trip and continued on without him,” they wrote. After the OP’s ex was arrested overseas for drug possession, they packed up his belongings and called a tow truck for his car, which was at the OP’s house.
“I told them he had been arrested in Africa and probably would miss some payments. Never talked to him again despite his many attempts. Feel blessed I dodged that bullet,” they wrote.
In an even better twist of events, the OP wrote that they met their current husband on the trip they went on without their ex. The two have been married for four years now.
Other Reddit users quickly followed with their own tales of post-breakup pettiness.
User u/Tinkertailorartist shared how they ghosted their ex after a breakup—but not in the traditional sense. After dropping him off at his mom’s house, they changed the locks on their home, switched their phone number and vanished without telling him they weren’t coming back. The simplicity of their exit was well-loved by other Redditors, who upvoted her comment 1,700 times.
User u/JynxMama, on the other hand, took revenge to a whole new level after discovering her fiancé had cheated on her.
Instead of just walking away, she placed an ad in the local newspaper—a publication she knew his grandmother read religiously. The ad included a photo of her ex with the person he was seeing, along with all the juicy details of their affair. His grandmother called her to apologize, while calling her grandson a disgrace.
“Best part?” she wrote. “I charged the ad to his credit card.”
One of the most dramatic stories came from u/Oldbutnottired3119, who found out her boyfriend was living with another woman while overseas. In a move that left him stranded, she canceled the credit card he was using—one that was under her account—and revoked his airline benefits. With no way to get home, her ex had to spend a night in jail for attempting to use the now-canceled credit card. Meanwhile, she moved on quickly like the OP, meeting her future husband just two months later.
From towing cars to disabling utilities, these stories of revenge show that some are willing to go to great lengths to make sure their exes feel the consequences of their actions. While these acts might seem extreme to some, for others, it’s just the right amount of closure.
“It’s been 25 years,” u/Oldbutnottired3119 wrote. “No regrets.”
