New images of Vladimir Putin’s ‘swollen and sore’ right hand has sparked fresh speculation over his health as Donald Trump also faces concerns over bruises to his right hand
A newly-released image of Vladimir Putin with a “swollen and sore” hand has sparked fresh speculation over the Russian president’s health, as some note it appears eerily similar to an injury observed on Donald Trump’s hand.
Putin was spotted clenching his right hand tightly in discomfort during a meeting with Yekaterina Leshchinskaya, the chair of the Russian Healthy Fatherland movement. The 73-year-old leader’s hands could be seen covered in bulging veins with his skin thin and wrinkled.
The incident has seen Ukrainian sources suggesting that the Russian dictator could be in pain. Media personality Dmytro Gordon observed: “Putin clenches his hands into something resembling fists. They look swollen and sore, with veins bulging prominently on one hand.”

Security analyst Anton Gerashchenko remarked: “There’s something wrong with Putin’s hands. Apart from the fact that they’re covered in blood up to the elbows [from his killing in the war], his veins are bulging too.”
The incident comes as Trump has also been facing mounting health concerns over injuries to his right hand. In recent months, the 79-year-old US president has repeatedly been spotted with dark bruising covering the back of his hand.
The bruising has often been covered in a thick layer of heavy makeup. Many have been quick to compare Putin and Trump’s hands.
Referencing Putin’s bulging hand veins, one X user noted: “JUST LIKE TRUMP!” A second wrote: “Putin’s hand too! Trump and Putin both with ill health showing in their hands. They are both rotting from the inside out!”
“Putin caught the Trump Hand Rot while in Alaska meeting with IQ47,” a third claimed. “This is like the plot of a horror movie: the Eldritch horror spread from the original host via handshake,” a fourth commented.
Another added: “Putin having a weird thing with his right hand just like Trump is kind of on the nose.” Trump was diagnosed with a chronic vein condition back in July.
At the time, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the diagnosis was unrelated to Trump’s hand bruises, which she claimed were the result of frequent handshaking while on Aspirin as “part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regime.”
Putin, meanwhile, is rumored to undergo regular cosmetic procedures to maintain a youthful appearance.
The fresh images of his hand come just two months after a conversation between the Russian president and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, 72, where they enthusiastically explored biological advances potentially extending human lifespan to 150 years.
Putin told Xi: “Human organs can be continuously transplanted. The longer you live, the younger you become.” In a private conversation overheard in China, Xi told Vladimir Putin: “People used to rarely live to 70, but now at 70 you are still a child.”
