Despite serving concurrent prison sentences for federal sex trafficking and child pornography charges, R. Kelly hasn’t given up on music. In a rare interview, the disgraced singer recently claimed that he has penned 25 albums while locked up.
The artist teased the recordings while making a recent appearance on the Inmate Tea with A&P podcast, during which he also serenaded the hosts April and Patricia with his songs “When a Woman’s Fed Up” and “Step in the Name of Love.”
“Singing is a beautiful disease that’s incurable,” Kelly said. “I don’t care where I’m at, I’m always singing, I’m always writing. I’ve written 25 albums since I’ve been in here.”
“I’m just working on getting out, getting back to what it is God gave me my talent to do,” he continued. “That’s what I’m working on right now. I’m using patience as a tactic right now.”

In June 2022, Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of racketeering related to the sexual exploitation of children, kidnapping, and forced labor.
Three months later, the artist was found guilty in a separate trial of three counts of child pornography production and three counts of child sex trafficking, for which he received a 20-year sentence.
Just last month, a federal appeals judge upheld Kelly’s racketeering convictions, so it looks like he won’t be stopping at 25 albums.
