Calling all Ice Age fans!
The animated film franchise is returning with a new sequel, according to castmembers Ray Romano, Queen Latifah and John Leguizamo, who announced the news on Friday. The actors, who all lent their voices to previous films in the franchise, revealed that Ice Age 6 is in the works from Disney, in a video shown at D23 Brazil.
In the clip, which was shared on Disney’s social media accounts, Romano is shown shivering in winter clothes and a blanket as he says “Ray Romano here with some big news! Wow, it’s cold in here. Did the AC break or something?”
The video cuts to Latifah, who calls Romano and says, “Hey Ray, ready to give the big announcement? I see you got my gift. I thought it would be fun,” as snow begins to fall on the soundstage. Romano then reveals that “Ice Age 6 is coming to theaters.”
Leguizamo closes out the video, saying, “The Herd is back, baby! I gotta call everybody I know.”
Romano will reprise his role as woolly mammoth Manny with Leguizamo appearing as ground sloth Sid and Latifah voicing woolly mammoth Ellie. Denis Leary and Simon Pegg are also returning for the sequel, which is currently in production.
Ice Age 6 will be the first film in the series to be released in theaters since Disney bought 21st Century Fox’s film and television assets, including the rights to the Ice Age franchise, in 2019. The most recent Ice Age film, 2016’s Collision Course, grossed nearly $409 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
Various films and series starring the prehistoric animals have been released through the years, including the 2022 spinoff The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild and the Disney+ series Ice Age: Scrat Tales. Disney has not yet shared the official release date for Ice Age 6.
