A woman’s unusual coffee order has sparked debate online after she revealed that a barista refused to make her drink as requested.
Dani (@reallynormalgirl) took to TikTok to share her experience after ordering a lemonade with a shot of espresso. Instead of preparing the drink as requested, the barista handed her the two components separately, leaving her to mix them herself. The post quickly gained traction, amassing 437,600 likes and 4.6 million views.
“I ordered a lemonade with a shot of espresso in it and the barista made a face like he really wanted to go home and said ‘I’m just gonna give them to you separately if that’s ok,'” Dani wrote as the text overlaying her video.
While the combination might seem unusual to some, coffee and lemonade blends have been enjoyed for years in various parts of the world.
One such drink is the Mazagran, a traditional Portuguese iced coffee lemonade. Originating as a refreshing way to enjoy coffee in warmer climates, Mazagran is often made with espresso, lemon juice, sugar, and ice. Some variations include additional ingredients like sparkling water.
TikTok users were divided in their reactions to Dani’s drink choice. Some were surprised by the combination, while others pointed out that coffee and citrus pairings are not uncommon.
“What’s wrong with the comments. has no one ever heard about mazagran? It’s so good,” Rida asked.
Others, however, were not convinced.

“Worked at Joffrey’s in Disney World for a while, we had this dude who would come in and get a half frozen lemonade, half frozen cappuccino. Out of curiosity, I tried it once. It took TWO DAYS to get the taste out of my mouth. I have no clue why he would come into the park DAILY for that nasty battery acid concoction, but sadly it wasn’t the worst thing I had to make there,” one user recounted.
Meanwhile, some coffee enthusiasts weighed in with a scientific perspective.
“Yo, barista here – here’s the science; milk/sugar takes away bitter/sour/dry flavors in coffee/espresso because it neutralizes those flavors. The opposite pH would do the same – lemon,” suggested Andi.
Others noted that similar drinks are widely available in Europe.
“What’s wrong with the comments. Espresso tonic is like everywhere in Europe I’ve been to so far,” another user pointed out.
For some, the combination was a familiar and welcome one.
“A local coffee shop sold Lemonade with cold brew in it and I was HOOKED. So good,” said Ali.
