Right-wing not-so-funnyman Rob Schneider suggested that NBA great Dikembe Mutombo, who died of brain cancer at age 58 on Monday, was a victim of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The former “Deuce Bigalow” and “Saturday Night Live” star shared a video of the Basketball Hall of Famer urging people to get inoculated during the pandemic.
“Rest in Peace …” Schneider wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “I’m sure this just (another) coincidence. But I took a pass on the Jab and I’m gonna not let anyone I know (and who will Listen) get it either!”
Rest in Peace…
I’m sure this is just (another) coincidence.
But I took a pass on the Jab and I’m gonna not let anyone I know (and who will Listen) get it either! https://t.co/iVMOu9lTfr— Rob Schneider (@RobSchneider) September 30, 2024
Schneider’s hot take was deemed “monstrous” by Rex Chapman, a social media commentator and NBA contemporary of Mutombo.
“Dikembe fought hard for the past year. He died from brain cancer. He lived beyond an honorable life,” Chapman wrote.
Schneider’s descent into reactionary grievance is rife with rants against the vaccine that include misinformation and conspiracy theories. He also has crusaded against perceived wokeness and alienated his daughter with what she called “toxic” behavior.
But the Donald Trump-loving comic’s evidence-free nonsense to mock instead of mourn the eight-time All-Star was too much for many:
You’re vile. He had cancer.

He had brain cancer. Which he got because (unlike you) he had a fucking brain.

Wow. Ambulance chaser celebration another human’s death from cancer.
Shame on you.— Linda Stevens 🌎 (@Linda__Stevens) September 30, 2024
@AdamSandler, I really hope you’ll reconsider your friendship with someone who would say something so despicable.
You know Dikembe; this is disgusting.

Bro just stop with the propaganda. Its old.

Watching you go from a joyful artist in Happy Madison films to a tasteless, socially awkward politically driven attention whore on the day of an honorable man’s death has been thoroughly disappointing.
Grow up. You can do it.
