Susan Collins will seek another term in Washington.A spokesperson for Collins told Maine’s Total Coverage Thursday that, while there is no formal announcement, Collins did say, “I’m focused on the appropriations process, not elections right now, but my intention is to run.” She also told Maine’s Total Coverage on Friday that a formal announcement about her plans will likely not come until the end of 2025. Collins is Maine’s senior senator, having held her seat since 1997. She will be up for re-election in 2026, seeking a sixth term in office.Collins survived a tough challenge from Sara Gideon in 2020 following the costliest race in Maine history.Collins is the longest-serving Republican woman in the Senate.Since January 2023, she has been the vice-chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. She told Maine’s Total Coverage on Friday “My primary focus for this year, this upcoming year, is going to be overseeing the appropriations process. I fully expect that I will be chair the Appropriations Committee. That will be the first time a Mainer has served as a chairman of the most powerful committee in the Senate in 92 years. So we’re overdue.”Collins said this week she was “shocked” that President-elect Donald Trump intends to nominate controversial U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz as attorney general, according to audio obtained by CNN.
