Lately, President Trump has been unsuccessful in swaying crowds to either applaud him or boo politicians he doesn’t like
President Donald Trump was again met with crickets when he tried to convince a crowd in Miami to boo his political adversary Zohran Mamdani who was officially elected New York City mayor Tuesday evening.
The president made the attempt Wednesday at the America Business Forum in Miami. Lately, President Trump has been unsuccessful in swaying crowds to either applaud him or boo politicians he doesn’t like.
This instance was no different. President Trump seemed to have tried to lean on his reputation as a businessman in an attempt to goad the crowd of business moguls to boo Mamdani, who was formally elected New York City mayor Tuesday night.

“[Democrats] elected a communist to be mayor of the largest city in the nation,” President Trump said, underscoring Mamdani’s political stance. He paused for a moment to let the crowd express its feelings, but he was met with a few scattered boos as the majority of spectators seemed to sit in silence.
Users on X seemed to notice as well and were quick to troll the president. “Even the crickets were like, ‘We’re not getting involved in this one,'” one wrote.
“Trump is losing his control on the CULT. You can see the cracks. People are sick of the empty promises and aimless ramblings,” added another.
This comes as the commander-in-chief’s approval rating hit an all-time-low this month, showing that a whopping 58% of Americans disapprove of the job that Trump is doing.
It’s unclear which aspect of the second Trump administration has turned constituents off more, from his demolition of the White House’s East Wing, to his tariffs that have been raising prices on US commodities, to the egregious state of the job market.
There’s almost certain to political war between Mamdani and the President Trump, who made numerous threats against the NYC in its entirety if residents elected the Muslim socialist into the mayor’s office.
Initially, President Trump said he would have Mamdani arrested on flimsy charges after his campaign began heating up. Then, days before New Yorkers, were set to hit the polls, Trump threatened to unilaterally withhold funding from the city besides the bare minimum the government is required to give if neither disgraced former governor Andrew Cuomo or Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa were elected.
During a Wednesday press conference following his overwhelming victory, Mamdani responded to President Trump’s threat, saying: “I will treat his threats as they deserve to be treated, which are the words of a president and not necessarily the law of the land. And too often we treat anything that he says by virtue of who’s saying it as if it is already that law.”
