The Ministry of Civil Aviation recently announced it has received renaming proposals for 22 airports across India.

They announced that 10 state governments have sent approvals to rename various airports in the country.

As per a Financial Express report, 3 airports in Andhra Pradesh will be renamed. This includes renaming Tirupati Airport to ‘ Sri Venkateswara Airport’.

Darbhanga Airport could also be renamed as ‘Vidyapati Airport’.

5 airports in Maharashtra, including the Shirdi Airport, can be renamed. The proposed name of the airport is ‘Shree Sai Baba International Airport’.

Financial Express report further suggested that four airports each in Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka can also be renamed.

Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Punjab, and Uttarakhand have also proposed airport renaming proposals.

As per the Aviation Ministry, a proposal for name change must be supported by a resolution from the state legislative assembly. The proposal is then reviewed in consultation with other ministries and departments before final approval.
