-2 cups plain flour (maida) -3/4 cup powdered sugar -1 cup soft butter -1/2 tsp vanilla essence -2 tsp cocoa powder

Sieve the flour and powdered sugar together, in a deep bowl.

Add the soft butter and vanilla extract. Mix well and knead into a smooth dough without using any water.

Divide the dough into two equal parts. In one portion of the dough, add the cocoa powder and knead well until well combined.

Take a small portion of both the doughs and roll it lightly to make 50mm (2 inch) diameter cookies.

Place them all on a lined baking tray and bake them in a pre-heated oven at 180°c (360°f) for 20 minutes.

Cool and serve marble butter cookies immediately.
