5. The Fridge Test

A higher intake of ultra-processed foods was associated with an 8% increase in stroke risk, with a more pronounced effect (15% increase) among Black participants.

Cognitive Impairment

Increasing ultra-processed food intake by just 10% was linked to a 16% higher risk of cognitive impairment.

Less Processed Food

Conversely, eating more unprocessed or minimally processed foods could lead to a 12% lower risk of cognitive impairment and a 9% decreased risk of stroke.

Brain Health Is Important

While the study didn't prove a direct causal relationship, it highlights the potential importance of a healthy diet in maintaining brain health as we age.
