Steve Bannon told MAGA “convert” Elon Musk to “sit in the back and study” or “we’re going to rip your face off” as escalating tensions over work visas continued.
On Tuesday’s WarRoom, Bannon argued Musk has “earned a place at the table” after his massive donations to President-elect Donald Trump’s run, but he also blasted the tech giant as ignorant on immigration issues. Bannon has argued that H-1B work visas are used by tech leader’s like Musk to drive down wages. He’s also said they are directly opposed to Trump’s immigration agenda. Musk has meanwhile argued H-1B visas fill widening skills gaps in the American workforce. He’s earned blowback for retaliating against critics on X and endorsing a post calling American workers “retarded.”
If you can work out the mathematical formulas and the engineering complexity of sending a colony of human beings to Mars and keep them alive, you can work through the math on this,” Bannon said.
He claimed Musk’s immigration views are motivated by “money and power.”
“This is about money and power. It’s not about race. It’s not about gender. It’s not about ethnicity. It’s not about religion. That’s what they want you to believe it is. So you like a bucket of crabs at each other’s throat? It’s not about. That’s about money and power,” Bannon said. “And Karl Rove is going to get his 54 big donors down there. They’re going to figure out how to stop Trump or how to compromise it.”
Bannon previously said this week that “escalation” between Musk and his MAGA critics is good and he has no plans on compromising his position or giving into calls for a “group hug.”
“No, we’re not having group hugs. We’re not having pats on the head. You’ve got to get this straight. First off, you got to get — hey, I’ve said many times that Elon came and Elon’s money helped organize the grassroots effort and his engineering mind. He saw what the problem was as we saw it, and he supported it,” he said. “And for that he gets a place at the table.”
He went on to compare Musk to a Catholic “convert” and said he should be studying “in the back,” rather than rushing to the pulpit.
Bannon said:
We love converts. Hell, I’m in a I’m a Catholic, we used to be in the convert business, not so much anymore, we can’t keep what we got. But in the old days, you know, half the Saints are missionaries. We love converts. But the converts sit in the back and study for years and years and years to make sure you understand the faith and you understand the nuances of the faith and understand how you can internalize the faith. Don’t come up and go to the pulpit in your first week here and start lecturing people about the way things are going to be. If you’re going to do that, we’re going to rip your face off. Because you can’t beat us. We’re not beatable. This army, the awakened, is not beatable because we’re relentless.
