Giddy off the back of Republican running mate Senator JD Vance’s (R-OH) performance on Tuesday night’s CBS-hosted vice presidential debate, Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) celebrated on social media by posting an altered image of Vance that, oddly, gave him a more defined jawline.
Following the debate, Republicans lawmakers and media talking heads praised Vance’s debate performance as he sparred with Democratic running mate Tim Walz. Trump national press secretary Karoline Leavitt called it “total domination.”
Across the aisle commentators like MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, who had previously joined liberals in labeling the senator “weird”, admitted that the Republican was “stylistically better” than Walz. CNN anchor Jake Tapper complimented Vance as “slicker.”
High on the moment, however, it was Collins who decided to celebrate with a modified image of Vance that sculpted him out with an artificially enhanced jawline, writing simply “Gm.” – presumably “Good Morning.”
The internet, being what it is, quickly seized on the image, mocking the House Republican.
Contrasting Collins’ image with the original, Washington Post national columnist Philip Bump posted a gif that switched between the
two images, showing how Collins’ image had trimmed in Vance’s face.
It’s not certain whether it was Collins who put in the work to edit up Vance’s look – after all his account bio reads “come for the memes, stay for the policy” – but Mediaite has reached out to him to find out.
