BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Macy’s Inc. announced Thursday that its store in the Logan Valley Mall in Altoona will be among 66 locations closing as part of the company’s “Bold New Chapter strategy.”
The closures are expected to occur during the first quarter of this year.
Tony Spring, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s, Inc., said, “Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service.”
Company leaders say the Bold New Chapter strategy, unveiled in February 2024, aims to return Macy’s to sustainable, profitable sales growth by closing approximately 150 underperforming stores over three years while investing in 350 go-forward locations through fiscal 2026.
Macy’s, Inc., headquartered in New York City, operates under the iconic nameplates Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Bluemercury.
