I’m just going to leave this here (with my brother’s permission). He has far more “insider information” that I do, or most of us do frankly. He spent 30+ years in the FAA both as a controller and in the admin side of things. Here it is, unedited. (For the record, my brother retired I think last year, maybe two years ago, once he reached the full benefits level for his service. This was his daughter’s first “real” job, and it lasted 5-6 months.)
For those of you who are cheering on the “downsizing” of the federal government, here is what is really happening:
First, the “Fork in the Road” emails enticing employees to resign and get paid through September. This questionably legal action led to 70,000 accepting it – mostly eligible for retirement although not all.
The next step was the firing of all probationary employees across all agencies/departments etc. approximately 200,000 are jobless today who were employed Friday including my daughter who was fired from the TSA along with most of her input class – some had previous government time and were no longer probationary.
Next, they will try to make as many employees Schedule F which means “at will” and they will begin culling those not loyal to Trump.
The ones who voted for this will initially be happy with this until the ripple effects start to happen. You’ll be asked to show up 3 hours early for flights, trying to get responses from agencies will take months instead of weeks. Food quality and shortages will happen because of less regulations not to mention prices for food, gas, yard work, roofing, and anything else “illegals” do will go up dramatically due to the companies having to pay more to get “Americans” to do the difficult work.
Trump will then begin to phase in his cronies companies to take over portions of all these jobs which again will seem like a good thing. But, they will then begin to charge premiums so the well-off don’t have to wait in lines, don’t need to mix with the riff raff, and will still be comfortable in their day-to-day living. The prices will continue to climb until it’s only the super-rich can afford these so called “luxuries” (which were a part of the government before for free), and the rest will be left out.
The federal government is not supposed to make a profit. It is there for the people who paid their taxes to access the systems we have in place. The replacement companies will absolutely be in it for profit and won’t care that it now costs much more for a young struggling family to make ends meet, as long as they’re in the black.
There is so much more to unwrap here, but I’ll leave it at this for now.
