Superman
As has been said many times, the internet is not real life, and that is something that a certain internet movement needs to get through their heads, despite years of believing otherwise. This would be the “Snyderverse” fanboys which once upon a time yelled so loudly they did in fact get the Snyder of DC’s Justice League released. That was an accomplishment (albeit mainly a WB HBO Max marketing stunt) and yes, it was a better film.
But in the years since then, things have spiraled into nothing short of delusion, the idea that WB should fire new DCU head James Gunn and replace him with Zack Snyder, or that Snyder should return and do a parallel DCEU universe continuing his plan, or even that Netflix should purchase the entire DCEU whole, as if that’s something that could happen.
Through all this, there is this constant pitting of Zack Snyder against James Gunn like they’re supposed to be Mozart and Salieri (in this metaphor Snyder would be Mozart, of course). But that’s not reality.
There’s no ill-will between Gunn and Snyder, as has been established in the past, but reaffirmed with a new viral photo of the two hanging out that was posted yesterday, already amassing 2 million views where Gunn is lavishing praise on his fellow director:
Some are saying this is a “peace offering” as if there was ever some brutal conflict in the first place. While sure, Snyder probably wanted to make a few more films to realize his DC plan, cutting that short has allowed him to work on a number of other passion projects with a new relationship with Netflix.
Whatever their ultimate quality, Snyder essentially got to release four Rebel Moon films, two PG-13 versions and much longer R-rated cuts. He did Army of the Dead. He did Twilight of the Gods. Planet of the Dead is coming. And his latest confirmed project is an unnamed LAPD-based action film, taking him out of his fantasy/sci-fi/adaptation history for once. I believe the only major project he pitched that was turned down by Netflix was an adaptation of Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead.
There is one aspect to the Gunn/Snyder pairing that could be sort of fun, if Snyder possibly directed a specific DCU film. The right project paired with the right script (probably one not written by him, which was a big problem with Rebel Moon) could be fun. His Justice League cut was good. Man of Steel was underrated. I could see it working.
But this rabid, delusional Snyderverse fanbase has got to give it up. They got the Snyder Cut, they are not getting some total restoration of his DCEU, and no, he does not hate James Gunn for that. Please, just come back to reality.
