THIS is the awkward moment Susanna Reid refused to hug Piers Morgan as he reappeared on Good Morning Britain.

The former Sun columnist and Piers Morgan Uncensored host returned to the ITV programme today, four years after he stormed off the set and quit.

In a shock move yesterday Piers, 59, took to social media to tell his followers of his impending return.

He wrote: “BREAKING: It’s been nearly 4yrs (1,453 days to be precise!) since I departed @gmb rather hastily… but tomorrow morning, for the first time, I’m going back.

“I’ll be on with @susannareid100 & @edballs at 8.15am.”

But his return began with a clumsy encounter between Piers and GMB co-host Susanna.

While introducing her former colleague, Susanna was interrupted by Piers who said: “Hang on!

“Are we just going to ignore the fact that I haven’t been here for 1,453 days?”

Reid interjected “no we are not”, before Piers questioned “am I not even going to get a hug?”

Piers then shuffled along the sofa with Susanna initially saying “no I don’t want a hug”.

But she then accepted after a “come on, come on” from Piers and the pair awkwardly embraced for a couple of seconds.

During the show the dad-of-four also spoke about US President Donald Trump.

He said he believed Sir Keir Starmer had “played a blinder” after he met with him over the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

Piers said that was pleased to see that Starmer has “found his mojo as a Prime Minister”.

The PM has spoken with Trump multiple times over the past couple of days and has said he wants to “bridge” the rift between the US and Ukraine.

And Piers claimed during his GMB appearance that Trump is right to complain about America bailing Europe out over Ukraine.

He said: “Trump quite rightly believes the Europeans have not stepped up enough in their defence of Ukraine.

“We haven’t, no other European country has, we’re now stepping up more and Trump will respect that.

“Look at the NATO spending pie, why should America – if you’re the Americans – keep spending way more than anyone else.”

He added that he believed that this was the “key to the tension”.

Piers left the ITV breakfast show in 2021 in a row over his comments about Meghan Markle.

Piers’ view was that Meghan repeatedly lied during a bombshell TV interview with Oprah Winfrey and badly besmirched the Royal Family.

The news anchor previously told The Sun how ITV bosses asked him to return to GMB.

Last week, Piers exclusively told us how he had a real-life Baby Reindeer stalker.

It comes after he interviewed the Netflix show’s “real-life” Martha last year.
