Fans hoping for a definitive update on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ QB situation heading into 2025 may have gotten an update—sort of.
According to insider Ian Rapoport, the Steelers have a clear preference for Justin Fields over Russell Wilson as their starting QB next season. However, Rapoport acknowledges that Pittsburgh would need to move quickly to re-sign Fields, as several teams, including the New York Jets, could be vying for the young, athletic QB in 2025 free agency.
Steelers beat writer Nick Farabaugh recently reported that the delay is likely on Fields’ side, as he and his agent may be interested in testing the market to determine his true value.
One could argue that the Steelers may need to shift their priorities in a hurry. While Fields is clearly the more dependable option to build the franchise around, his hesitation could leave the Steel City without a signal-caller.
Will Fields recognize the Steelers’ urgency to re-sign him, or will he ultimately return the favor to the team that wrongly benched him after a strong 4-2 start to the 2024 regular season?
