We may be getting a Disney+ series based on the 2003 BioWare RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, if a recent report from an industry insider is to be believed.
Rumours of a TV series or film based on Knights of the Old Republic have been floating around online for years at this point, but the insider in question this time around does have a pretty impressive track record.
The insider in question is Daniel Richtman, who revealed (per TheGamer) that a series based on the 2003 Star Wars game is currently in production and set to drop on Disney+ at some point in the future.
Beyond what little Richtman revealed, we don’t really know much else other than that it’s set in the “Knight of the Old Republic era”.
Regardless, at least this is something the KOTOR fanbase would love to see, right?
Uh, well, no – at least according to almost every comment in a thread detailing the leak over on the r/kotor subreddit.
“Almost every tv series adaption of a video game gets butchered horribly, with the lore being flat out ignored by the writer, who’s usually not at all a fan of the game series,” commented user DownUnderPunk.
“I hope KOTOR is never made as a series of any kind.”
“If Disney makes a live action Revan saga I might actually act like Star Wars never even existed,” replied another user.
“No. We don’t want that. It will be EXTREMELY disappointing.”
Oof, geez. Well, I suppose we can hardly blame them.
Video game adaptations are, notoriously, quite terrible (although they are getting better, if the Sonic the Hedgehog films and The Last of Us HBO series are anything to go by), and Disney’s track record isn’t exactly the best when it comes to Star Wars.
I reckon there’s about a 50/50 chance a KOTOR adaptation could be incredible, but maybe we shouldn’t roll the dice on this one.
