Danny Peart, the brother of the late Rush drummer Neil Peart, has died following a battle with the same form of cancer.
In early 2020, Neil died after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma. Tragically, Danny has now passed away after an 18-month battle with glioblastoma.
His death was announced by his sister, Nancy Peart Burkholder, who revealed news of his passing on the Peart Family Events Facebook group, which was later shared in the Neil Peart Drums and Drumming Facebook group.
She wrote: “On this dreary Sunday it is with great sadness that we share that this past Thursday evening we lost our third Peart man and 2nd brother, Danny, after his year and a half battle with glioblastoma (brain cancer).”
Buckholder continued: “Danny shared our amazing Peart traits that all of our men carried, a true gentleman with a kind heart and generous spirit.”
Danny, like Neil, was born in Ontario but later moved to Vancouver where he lived with his wife, Janette Lindley, and their two sons, Max and Nick.
Similarly to his brother, Danny was blessed with creative genes and was a celebrated author who released a series of collections during his career, including 2016’s Stark Naked in a Laundromat which featured a foreword by his brother Neil.
In 2023, Danny poignantly said of his brother’s passing on the Rush Podcast: “We’d like to be remembered that we did make a difference, that we showed up and gave it our best shot, and certainly Neil’s… You can see — the legacy since people heard that Neil had died, his legacy has been so huge. We are all overwhelmed by how much people cared.”
