The coach of one of the top high school football teams in the state says fans and players are so unruly that it’s not worth it to keep coaching.
Stephen Sedesse was the coach of Williams Valley Football.
Despite a 6 and 1 record, and two straight district championships, Sedesse stepped down on Monday.
He says players this season are disrespectful and abusive.
When he tried to discipline them, parents and players turned on him, and his coaching staff.
“When parents obviously found out we were going to be sitting some kids, we got a lot of backlash, a lot of threats, we were threatened that if their kids don’t start in the game, we would need extra security at the game,” Sedesse said.
“I decided Monday morning that, if my business is going to get threatened, if my family is going to get threatened, it’s small school football, I don’t need to have that in my life,” he continued.
Sedesse’s father was an assistant coach. He resigned as well.
Williams Valley’s Athletic Director is stepping in to coach the team the rest of this season.
