The LSU fan who ran onto Saban Field during Saturday’s Alabama game was charged with second-degree criminal trespass, according to a statement campus police gave to AL.com.
The man, who is not a UA student, was then taken to Tuscaloosa County Jail and booked into custody, according to a University of Alabama spokesperson.
UA declined to provide any additional information.
Criminal trespass second-degree is a class C misdemeanor in Alabama.
“We take matters of security seriously and are extremely disappointed in what occurred Saturday night,” according to a statement a UA athletics spokesperson gave to AL.com.
“Entering the competition arena without authorization is unacceptable. Such prohibited actions carry consequences, as in this case where the individual was arrested and trespassed from campus.”
The man arrested was Jonathan Austan Luna, according to a Tuscaloosa County Sherriff’s office spokesperson.
Luna’s bail was $500. He was booked at about 10 p.m. on Saturday and released on bond around 11 p.m.
“Oops,” Luna posted on his Facebook page Sunday, sharing AL.com’s video of the incident.
He is a resident of Denham Springs, La., according to his Facebook profile.
When reached for comment by AL.com, Luna said he “meant no harm to anyone.”
“Just me and my friends were watching the game and I was like, ‘Man it’d be funny to run on the field during the game,’” said Luna.
Video from the game shows Luna climbing over the fence of Bryant-Denny Stadium onto the field.
Luna is then seen running through the end zone onto the playing surface during a timeout in the second half.
He held his arms up then shook his purple shirt.
Eventually, he stopped running by the time he reached the 25-yard line.
As Luna walked with his arms up, a UA staffer ran up to him from the end zone and signaled to Luna he needed to leave.
She walked Luna to the LSU sideline as she kept talking with him.
“I was anticipating getting tackled but it never happened,” Luna said.
“Then I walked calmly to the sidelines and told the officers what I did. I placed my hands behind my back to show I was complying and submitting.”
Once the UA staffer and Luna reached the sideline, a law enforcement officer took Luna into custody.
Soon, Luna was being escorted by multiple officers.
This is believed to be the first time a fan has run onto the field during a game at Bryant-Denny Stadium in a long time, if not possibly for the first time ever.
