A group of Republicans seemingly declared war on the Catholic Church after the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a special message for the first time in over a decade.
At the request of Pope Leo XVI, the group issued a statement saying they were “disturbed when we see among our people a climate of fear and anxiety around questions of profiling and immigration enforcement.” The letter adds, “We are saddened by the state of contemporary debate and the vilification of immigrants.”
“We are concerned about the conditions in detention centers and the lack of access to pastoral care. We lament that some immigrants in the United States have arbitrarily lost their legal status,” the statement continues. “We are troubled by threats against the sanctity of houses of worship and the special nature of hospitals and schools. We are grieved when we meet parents who fear being detained when taking their children to school and when we try to console family members who have already been separated from their loved ones.”

“Despite obstacles and prejudices, generations of immigrants have made enormous contributions to the well-being of our nation,” the group commented. “We as Catholic bishops love our country and pray for its peace and prosperity. For this very reason, we feel compelled now in this environment to raise our voices in defense of God-given human dignity.”
It was reported that the comments seemingly enraged Border czar Tom Homan, who appeared on EWTN News to rage against the church. “The Catholic Church is wrong. I’m sorry,” Homan, 64, told. the outlet.
“I’m a lifelong Catholic. I’m saying it as not only a border czar. I’ll say it as a Catholic,” Homan continued. I think they need to spend time fixing the Catholic Church, in my opinion.”
Homan is not the only MAGA follower to get angry with the church. Rep. Tim Burchett from Tennessee accused the Catholic Church of using grants from the government to render services to refugees. According to Gateway Pundit Jim Hoft, bishops had allegedly squandered $2.3 billion.
Trump loyalist Laura Loomer also jumped into the fray and attacked the bishops on X. “Are all of the Jew haters going to be calling out the US Catholic Bishops and the Marxist American Pope for condemning deportations?” she wrote.
“Or are we only allowed to blame Jews for illegal immigration?” she added. “It’s sad to see the Catholic Church work so hard to try to destroy our country.”
Matt Walsh, a right-wing political commentator, slammed the bishops, saying that they did not make a video criticizing Joe Biden’s administration “for supporting, funding, and facilitating the mass slaughter of children in the womb,” or “its support for the castration and sexual mutilation of children.”
