CBS is once again changing its late-night lineup — or rather, trimming it.
The network announced Wednesday that it will wind down its 12:35 a.m. show After Midnight later this year after two seasons — despite a recent reneal for a third season. Host Taylor Tomlinson decided to return her focus to her stand-up comedy and touring.
The final episodes of the show are set to air in June. CBS says it won’t replace After Midnight with new programming in the 12:35 a.m. slot next season. Whether the network keeps that hour or returns it to local stations hasn’t been determined yet.
“Hosting After Midnight has genuinely been the experience of a lifetime, and I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunity to be part of this incredible journey. Though it was an extremely tough decision, I knew I had to return to my first passion and return to stand-up touring full-time.” Tomlinson said in a statement. “I appreciate CBS, [executive producer] Stephen Colbert, the producers, and the entire After Midnight staff and crew for all the love, support, and unforgettable memories.”
Added Colbert, “I want to thank CBS for their constant support and invaluable partnership on After Midnight, and the whole staff for their amazing dedication. While we were excited and grateful for our third season to start in the fall, we respect Taylor’s decision to return to stand-up full time.”
After Midnight premiered in January 2024, taking over the post-Late Show With Stephen Colbert several months after The Late Late Show With James Corden ended. CBS renewed it for a second season in June of last year.
The panel show is a variation on Comedy Central’s @midnight, with Tomlinson leading a panel of comics through a series of games tied to the internet and pop culture stories of the day. The show is averaging about 700,000 on-air viewers this season over seven days (not including streaming).
CBS Studios, Colbert’s Spartina Industries and Funny Or Die produce After Midnight. Executive producers are Stephen Colbert, Carrie Byalick, Tom Purcell and Evelyn McGee Colbert of Spartina; James Dixon of Dixon Talent; Jack Martin; Joe Farrell; Mike Farah; JD Amato; Whitney Hodack and Henry R. Muñoz III of Funny Or Die; and @midnight co-creator Jason U. Nadler of Serious Business.
