Amy Adams went to impressive lengths to portray her latest movie character.
The 50-year-old actress stars in the new horror comedy film Nightbitch, during which she offered to grow out her own chin hair to portray her character, a struggling stay-at-home mom who sometimes believes she is turning into a dog.

During a new interview with Variety published Tuesday, Oct. 22, Adams discussed the scene in which her character, only referred to as “Mother,” discovers new hair growing on her chin—hairs that we now know were Adams’ own.
“The hair on the face—that was mine,” the six-time Oscar nominee revealed to the outlet in the new cover story.
“I saw it as a wonderful expression of the human experience without any artifice or filters. Or tweezers!” she quipped.
Adams went on to explain that she just happens to have rapidly-growing hair on her chin, something that made her the perfect candidate for the Nightbitch role.

“I have that kind of hair that just grows overnight. One day it’s not there, and the next day it’s like I’m a catfish,” she admitted.
While noting that her chin hair confession “might turn some people away,” it’s not even the boldest part of Adams’ role in the Marielle Heller film, which also shows the actress eating on her hands and knees and digging in the yard on all fours.
During her conversation with Variety, Adams also talked about some comments she’s received on the way she looks in the film, even when she’s not turning into a dog.
“I’ve had people be like, ‘Oh my gosh, you looked awful,’” she said of her character’s frumpish style in the film.
In response, she quipped, “I was like, ‘You do realize that’s what I look like in my life, right?'”
Nightbitch officially releases in theaters on Dec. 6.
