When filming the sketch to promote this week’s episode of “Saturday Night Live,” host Bill Burr and cast member Marcello Hernandez faced a unique problem: How to address the presidential election even though the spot would be shot before the results were known?
Their answer: Sound gags and Jeffrey Epstein jokes.
While discussing the election by the craft services table, Burr and Hernandez keep getting interrupted by increasingly absurd loud noises that drown out what their saying.
Hernandez says, “Dude, I cannot believe that … won” as a crew member makes a smoothie in a nearby blender, perfectly timed to make the winner’s name inaudible.
Burr replies, “Never in a million years — in a million years — did I think that…” as someone runs a vacuum cleaner behind them.
To keep the gag going, Burr then tells Hernandez that he was “in a steam room with Giuliani” who told him “who actually killed Epstein” — referring to the convicted pedophile who was found dead in his prison cell in 2019. Just as Burr says the name, another crew member drills into a wall. Hernandez follows up that his “cousin who works at the Pentagon” told him who Epstein’s killer was as someone running a leaf blower passes by.
The bit concludes with Hernandez running through a list of recreational drugs he has stashed away as one of the “SNL” band members blows a saxophone. Then Hernandez asks Burr who he voted for.
“I voted for everybody,” Burr says. “Just filled them in.”
“Me too, me too!” Hernandez says.
“No matter what, I’m right!” Burr says. “It wasn’t us. We’re on the sidelines.”
Burr’s episode of “SNL,” with musical guest Mk.gee, is set to air on Nov. 9 at 8:30pm PT / 11:30pm ET on NBC.
