CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – What was intended to be a family friendly night turned violent during Friday night’s Guardians game at Progressive Field.
Conor Kilbane captured the video off his phone just a few rows ahead.
“I turned to my friend that was with me and said ‘something bad is going to happen’”. said Kilbane. “I turned around and I see the blonde hair woman had nacho cheese or mustard all over her”
Next, fists started flying. Kilbane said one man attempted to break up the fight before being knocked to the ground.
Cleveland Police responded minutes later. CPD told 19 news no arrests were made. However, the video now going viral. Fans at Progressive Field for Saturday’s game give their thoughts.
“That is no way to behave. In our society in today’s age, we’re supposed to be better than this” said Kim Tabanji, a Guardians fan.
“There’s families there. No one wants to see that.” said Kevin Tagart, a Blue Jays fan.
Kilbane also expressing his disappointment.
“There was a Toronto Blue Jays fan probably 8 years old behind me. Its this kid’s first time in Cleveland and he is going to have that recollection,” said Kilbane.
19 news reached out to a spokesperson with the Cleveland Guardians to find out if there’s increased security at Saturday’s game. They gave no comment. However, fans say its not a bad idea.
“I don’t feel unsafe here but you see something like that it makes you think and wonder about going to public places” said Tabanji
“Too much security makes people feel unsafe but also you want to have enough security to make people like there are people that will step in during those situations” said Tagart.
Fans said this incident won’t stop them from attending games but they hope this video will make people think twice before bringing violence to the ball park.
“Whatever happened there is no justification for violence especially at a sporting event” said Kilbane.
