Diamond Baseball Holdings is acquiring a pair of New York Mets minor-league affiliates.
New York’s High-A Brooklyn Cyclones and Triple-A Syracuse Mets are both going under the DBH umbrella. DBH also owns New York’s Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies as well.
Maimonides Park in Brooklyn’s Coney Island section, with its boardwalk and ocean backdrop, is significant to DBH.
“Brooklyn is a really big opportunity for us,” DBH CEO Peter Freund told SBJ. “We’ve already gone ahead and purchased a brand-new video board for the stadium. And we’re going to reimagine the entire stadium and really make it a showpiece, not only for the Brooklyn Cyclones and their fans, but for minor-league baseball in general. When we were starting out, Brooklyn was always one of the top (clubs) that we wanted.”
The recent acquisitions bring DBH’s total to 38 MiLB teams, including 13 at the Triple-A level.
