PUTNAM VALLEY- A monument erected to mock and ridicule former President Donald Trump at the Donald J. Trump State Park at the Putnam Valley-Yorktown border that suddenly appeared on Monday morning was removed by New York State Park personnel later in the day.
NYS Park Police spokesman Fred Mannocchi told reporters: “It’s been removed and on its way to be disposed of. The incident is under investigation.”
Vandals have targeted the park off the Taconic State Parkway in the past. In 2017, the park’s entrance sign was stolen.
Four years ago, a bill to remove the former President’s name was approved in the State Senate before falling short as members of the State Assembly adjourned for the year, before the legislation reached the floor.
The 436-acre parcel of land, which straddles the Putnam-Westchester line, was donated by the billionaire mogul to New York State 19 years ago as a conservation contribution.
It was never developed and following state budget cuts in 2010, was shuttered, today consisting of only a sign, a gravel parking lot and a notice to be aware of ticks. There are no restrooms, places to sit or trashcans.
As a matter of fact, the Trump State Park is only listed on the NYS Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation website as a “passive park.”
