10:00 P.M. UPDATE: “I’m a little bit in shock you know it’s an unfortunate reality of where we’re at in this world today,” said the Scarlets Head Coach Nate Olson in reaction to his team having to postpone their match against Anoka due to a theft of team gear.
The Duluth Police Department is working with the team and an investigation is ongoing.
“You know life gonna throw adversity at you and you gotta fight your way through it and that’s exactly what we’re gonna do,” said Olson.
Olson thanked the community for their immediate support with some even offering spare sticks and even a GoFundMe.
According to Coach Olson, they have come to Duluth for these games for at least a decade and the sticks have always been stored in the cargo hold of the bus, as kids bring all of their other gear in to dry.
Over 35 sticks were found which the team estimates is worth up to $12,000.
