ER has reached the 30th anniversary of its pilot premiere on Sept. 19, 1994. The hospital procedural show won 23 Primetime Emmys over its 15-season run. Stars who came out of the series included Anthony Edwards, George Clooney, Julianna Margulies and Maura Tierney.

Anthony Edwards – Mark Greene
Anthony Edwards, who played Mark Greene in 182 episodes of the Chicago-set procedural show, last appeared in Tales of the Walking Dead as Dr. Charles Everett in 2022. Before that, he also played Bruce Dunlevie in Apple’s WeCrashed about the founders of WeWork. He also appeared as Alan Reed in Inventing Anna.
After ER ended, Edwards went on to star in films like Motherhood (2009), Flipped (2010) and Disney’s Planes. He also appeared as Hank Galliston in Zero Hour. He won a Primetime Emmy for Temple Grandin (2009), and he was nominated four times for his role in ER from 1995-19998.

George Clooney – Doug Ross
George Clooney, who played Doug Ross in 108 episodes of ER, has the film Wolfs coming out via Apple Sept 27 on the streamer. He stars alongside Brad Pitt in the thriller film. Clooney’s recent projects include voicing Spaceman in IF, appearing as Bruce Wayne in The Flash (2023) and starring alongside Julia Roberts in the rom-com Ticket to Paradise (2022).
After ER ended, Clooney starred as Ryan Bingham in Up in the Air, Lyn Cassady in The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009) and as the voice of Mr. Fox in Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009). Clooney has won two Oscars for Argo (2012) and Syriana (2006). He received two Emmy nominations for the role of Doug Ross in 1995 and 1996.

Julianna Margulies – Carol Hathaway
Julianna Margulies played Carol Hathaway in 135 episodes of the hospital series. Most recently, she appeared in two seasons of Apple TV+’s highly successful The Morning Show alongside Jennifer Anniston and Reese Witherspoon. She won’t appear in the upcoming Season 4. She also appeared as Maggie in Millers in Marriage, and she played Catherine Brant in Billions.
After ER ended, Margulies went on to headline another network series, The Good Wife, starring alongside Chris Noth, Josh Charles, Christine Baranski and Alan Cumming, to name a few. Margulies won two Primetime Emmys for playing Alicia Florrick in The Good Wife, and she was nominated six times for her ER role.

Maura Tierney – Abby Lockhart
Maura Tierney played Abby Lockhart for 189 episodes of ER. Most recently, she has appeared in the Twisters sequel starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones and in American Rust as Grace Poe. She also starred as Doris Von Erich in The Iron Claw (2023), Fiona McKee in Your Honor and Helen Solloway in The Affair.
After ER ended, Tierney appeared in Rescue Me, The Whole Truth, and Ruth & Erica. She also played Maddie Hayward in The Good Wife for a few episodes alongside ER castmate Julianna Margulies. She was nominated for an Emmy in 2001 for her role in ER and another for her role in The Affair.

Deezer D – Nurse Malik McGrath
Deezer D played Nurse Malik McGrath on ER for 190 episodes. Most recently, he has appeared as Jim Calloway in Courting Mom and Dad (2021) and Crowning Jules (2017) as a Pawnbroker.

Laura Cerón – Nurse Chuny Marquez
Laura Cerón, aka Nurse Chuny Marquez in 219 episodes of ER, appeared as Camilla in Letters to Santa (2023) and Sonja ‘Mom’ in Scrambled. She also appeared in a few episodes of Station 19, 9-1-1: Lone Star and Shameless.
Following ER’s conclusion, she appeared in an episode of CSI: Miami, Saving Grace and Los Americans while appearing in films like Political Disasters (2009) and The Perfect Family (2011). She was also nominated for an Emmy for directing the “Shibboleth” episode of The West Wing.

Noah Wyle – John Carter
Noah Wyle played John Carter in 254 episodes of ER. He played Harry Wilson in Leverage: Redemption, and a third season of the drama show is approaching. He played Peter Barris in At the Gates (2022) and he appeared as Daniel Calder in The Red Line. He appeared in The Librarians as Flynn Carsen, and a spinoff series of that show was slated to arrive later this year, though it has been put on hold.
Wyle also appeared in Below the Beltway (2010) and Queen of the Lot (2010) following the end of ER. He was nominated for an Emmy five times from 1995 to 1999 for his role in ER.

Laura Innes – Kerry Weaver
Laura Innes played Kerry Weaver for 249 episodes of ER. She became known for Deep Impact (1998), Awake (2012) and TV series The Event. She appeared in How to Get Away with Murder and has worked on several short films most recently.
Innes was nominated twice for her portrayal of Kerry Weaver in ER.

Eriq La Salle – Peter Benton
Eriq La Salle went on to appear as Will Munson in Logan (2017) about Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. He recently appeared in A Second Chance at Love (2022) as Jack Roberts and Víctimas de sus amores as Yadira.
After the end of ER, La Salle appeared in MegaFault (2009) and television shows like 24, Covert Affairs, How to Make It in America, A Gifted Man and more. La Salle was nominated three times for playing Peter Benton in ER.

Mekhi Phifer – Gregory Pratt
Mekhi Pfifer played Gregory Pratt in 135 episodes of ER. He went on to appear in the Divergent films as Max, Frequency as Satch Reyna, Love, Victor as Harold Brooks and Markus Killebrew/Knox in Truth Be Told.
Phifer won an NAACP Image Award for his role in ER, and he just appeared at the 76th Primetime Emmys in a segment honoring TV Doctors.

Linda Cardellini – Samantha Taggart
Linda Cardellini played Samantha Taggart for 126 episodes on ER. After ER ended, Cardellini appeared in New Girl, Mad Men, Daddy’s Home (2015), A Simple Favor (2018), Green Book (2018), The Curse of La Llorona (2019) and more.
She has become known for playing Laura Barton, wife to Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and most recently, she appeared alongside Christina Applegate in Dead to Me on Netflix. She can next be seen in Nutcrackers, which sold out of Toronto Film Festival to Hulu.

John Stamos – Tony Gates
John Stamos played Tony Gates for around 65 episodes on ER. He had previously appeared in Full House, and after the hospital procedural ended, he appeared on Glee, Entourage, Necessary Roughness, Scream Queens, Netflix’s You, Fuller House and four episodes of Onyx Collective’s UnPrisoned Season 2.
Movie credits include My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (2016), Members Only (2015) and Father of Invention (2010).
