Today host Hoda Kotb began her last week on the show with a big Hokie surprise: Dozens of sorority sisters came from across the country to meet her on the plaza.
The sisters wore matching Tri Delta hats, waved signs, and rushed up for hugs with their fellow Virginia Tech alumna. Even the Hokie Bird mascot showed up to greet Kotb at the Rockefeller Center.
Kotb appeared to be floored by the unexpected arrival of 60 sorority women.
“How did this happen? How did this even happen?” she shouted. “I’m shocked! How did you do it?”
According to Today’s social media, the sisters didn’t get much notice to make arrangements for the trip.
“With just two weeks’ notice, dozens of Hoda’s Tri Delta sisters showed up live on TODAY. That’s sisterhood!” an Instagram post declared.
Today has designated this week a “Hodabration” and is welcoming visitors to the plaza through Friday on a first-come, first-served basis.
Next week, Craig Melvin will take over Kotb’s co-anchor spot alongside Savannah Guthrie for the first two hours of Today.
Co-host Jenna Bush Hager has yet to announce a replacement for Kotb during the fourth hour of Today, but plans to bring on guest hosts in the meantime. Bush Hager shared that actors Taraji P. Henson, Keke Palmer, and Eva Longoria will guest host alongside her next week.
“I feel like Hoda helped me manifest this. Nobody will ever fill this chair, but the three of them sure can try,” she said.
“Heavy hitter, home run, wow,” Kotb agreed. “It’s going to be awesome. It’s going to be amazing.”
