Primus is searching for a new drummer. It might just be you, if you’ve got the chops.
The renowned progressive rock band posted requirements for a new drummer in an Instagram post Monday. The move comes after longtime drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander left the band in October, saying he “lost his passion for playing.” Primus was said to be “in complete shock” as Alexander told the band he was leaving in an email.
Other than being a drummer (obviously), Primus is also looking for other upstanding qualities such as being a “well-mannered, affable individual with original sensibility and aesthetic, possessing a desire to open new doors in the creative world,” according to the Instagram post.
Members of other bands, including Holy Mackerel and Frog Brigade, will be drumming for Primus during their Dec. 30 and Dec. 31 shows in Oakland. Danny Carey, the drummer for iconic prog rock band Tool, will play with Primus during a Dominican Republic festival date in March 2025.
Submissions to the band’s email address must include a resumé and a recent performance video.
