Kanpur, 27th Oct 2026 — Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kanpur has successfully concluded the initial multi-city regional rounds of its flagship startup pitching competition, UpStart 2026. Designed to support, accelerate, and empower emerging startups across India, the national business model competition hosted intensive screening and mentoring sessions in Delhi-NCR on 10 October 2026, followed by simultaneous editions in Bengaluru and Hyderabad on 24 October 2026.
The inaugural Delhi-NCR edition was organized at the SIIC office, IIT Kanpur Outreach Center in Noida, and witnessed the participation of 20 selected startups. The founders presented their business models to delegates and prominent investors from Advantedge, Growx, Titan, IAN, and Dynamic Orbits.
Following the in-person Delhi kickoff, the Bengaluru and Hyderabad chapters were conducted simultaneously in an online mode. These virtual regional rounds witnessed the combined participation of 15 early-stage ventures and 15 prominent investors and venture capital firm representatives. The participating entrepreneurs pitched their business models and engaged in detailed discussions with industry leaders from firms including Hyderabad Angels, Impel Ventures, Venture East, ADP, NoQ Digital, and IAN Ventures.
Across all three cities, the UpStart 2026 regional rounds featured early-stage ventures spanning diverse focus sectors such as fintech, health tech, deep tech, Web3, and cybersecurity. Functioning as an intensive business model incubator rather than a conventional pitching competition, the events provided founders with face-to-face mentoring, detailed brainstorming sessions with expert panels, networking opportunities, and avenues for on-spot funding. Startups selected from these regional rounds will advance to an intensive multi-week mentorship framework guided by industry veterans to equip them with scaling strategies ahead of the finale.
Sharing insights on the successful conclusion of these regional events, Gunjan, Manager-Events, Entrepreneurship Cell at IIT Kanpur, stated “India is at the cusp of a startup revolution, and early-stage founders require more than just capital to succeed. They need structured validation, hands-on mentorship, and direct market access. The regional editions of UpStart 2026 featured highly innovative ideas, and IIT Kanpur is committed to evaluating business fundamentals rigorously while connecting these high-potential innovators with active investors. We look forward to seeing similar determination and conviction in the upcoming regional locations.”
The domestic rollout of the 2026 edition follows the successful international expansion of the competition, with the Seoul chapter of UpStart having already concluded in South Korea. The multi-city Indian tour will now move to its final regional chapter in Mumbai on 5 December 2026. The shortlisted finalists from across all regions will ultimately compete for a cumulative prize pool worth up to INR 18 lakhs during the UpStart Finale, scheduled to be held at the IIT Kanpur campus on 23 January 2027.
