Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville offered a damning assessment of President Donald Trump’s current standing among voters.
Trump is currently polling “at an all-time low,” Carville noted during an appearance on the latest episode of “The Daily Beast Podcast” released Monday, pointing to a Gallup poll showing his approval rating at 36%.
“I don’t know how much lower you can go,” Carville said.
“I think his presidency, in terms of, like, getting anything significantly done, is over,” he added, predicting that, after the 2026 midterm elections, Trump will likely have to deal with a Democrat-controlled House, and possibly a Democrat-controlled Senate too.
“The power’s going out of Trump by the minute. You can just feel it oozing out,” Carville added later in the episode, during which he elaborated on his recent opinion piece for The New York Times that put recent Democratic election victories down to the “economic pain” being experienced by Americans in Trump’s second term.
“We’re living through the greatest economic inequality since the Roaring Twenties,” Carville wrote for the Times. “President Trump has done nothing to curb the cost of what it requires to take even a breath in America today, the centerpiece promise of his 2024 campaign.”
“The people are revolting, and they have been for some time,” he added. “This offers Democrats the greatest gift you can have in American politics: a second chance.”
